We often wonder whether our passport is valid for certain countries that now only accept biometric passports. Since the year 2009, all passports made in France are biometric, so you do not have to ask the question of the type of passport accepted for your destination. If you have a passport dating before 2009, it remains of course valid until its expiry date. If you want to go to a destination that favors biometric passports (such as the United States for example), you will need to apply for a specific visa.
What is a biometric passport? For which countries is it required?
By decree of 30 December 2005, France has set up an electronic passport, which has been put into circulation since May 2006.
The new biometric passport has been issued since June 2009. The only visual difference with the electronic passport, is the underlined passport word on the cover. On the other hand, the chip now stores the scanned photograph and two fingerprints of the passport holder.
Like its predecessor, it has a validity of 10 years for adults and 5 years for minors. In addition to the scanned identity photograph, the civil status and two fingerprints on the microchip, the passport is linked to the DELPHINE application, the first national biometric file used for administrative purposes.
In France, it is possible to apply for a biometric passport in any town hall equipped with a biometric data collection device, which includes a scanner, as well as a camera and the device that is necessary for fingerprints registration.

The Passport Grand Traveler
If you plan to travel a lot or go around the world, it may be a good idea to apply for a passport. It is a passport with 16 pages more than a normal passport, which is very useful if you are going to countries requiring visas. Indeed, visas often take the form of a sticker taking the space of a whole page, which can quickly fill your passport if you mop in several countries asking for this kind of visa. In addition, some countries require two blank pages in your passport to accept your visa application, to have the sticker on one side and the input and output stamps on the other, such as the China for example. It is one more easy condition to complete if you are in possession of a Passport Passenger.
The documents to be provided are the same as for a traditional passport application, to which you have to add a request written on free paper explaining the reasons for your request. The price of this passport is the same as a standard passport, i.e. € 86. So you do not lose anything to make this request before a big trip!
