Holiday Decor in NYC

I have visited The Big Apple

four times. While each trip was more memorable than the last, the most recent jaunt will stand out in my mind forever because it’s the first trip I’ve ever taken during the holidays that didn’t include a beach and lots of sunscreen; AND, it was a long overdue mother-daughter trip.

My mumsie and I had such a great time walking the (cold and rainy) Manhattan streets, especially because the city was all decked out for the holidays, and let me tell you…the decorations in NYC are intense. Last year, I set up my own little Christmas Corner on the porch ledge in my Panama home, and while I enjoyed the backdrop of palm trees and my crafty coastal decorations, the holiday decor in NYC was amazing in a traditional kind of way. Really. So many decked out halls, trees and amazing window displays. My head was spinning.

The grand Christmas tree in the Roosevelt Hotel lobby (a fabulous lobby with not-so-fabulous rooms, I might add).

Holiday shoppers everyone in Macy's.

This mesmerizing window display outside of Macy's featured dancing marionettes. So gorgeous...and if there weren't 305,637 people around, I could have taken a photo of the entire display ;)

Cartier on Saks Fifth Avenue all wrapped up for the holidays.

Silly me, I forgot to snap a photo of the name of this shop, but their window display of beautifully packaged lotions and candles is too pretty not to include.

All corporate lobbies have a tall tree on display - this tree is from the Admit One office on Broadway.

I LOVE this unconventional Christmass tree display in one of Soho's bohemian-style boutique shops. Seems like a fun DIY, right?

And when it comes to stunning architecture, there is no shortage in NYC, especially in Uptown. Love the understated wreaths on this building.

Watching people skate (and fall) at Rockefeller Centre.

I think this is Madison Avenue all lit up at night - most trees in Midtown were full of twinkly lights and holiday cheer.

Needless to say, we returned to (colder) Toronto with sore legs, damp shoes, lots of shopping bags and broken umbrellas.

I’m so happy to have been able to travel with my mom – she’s a fun and easy-going travel partner, and since we haven’t been able to spend as much time together while I’ve been living abroad, this trip was a much-need dose of QT.  The holiday decor and Christmas music (even though I’m pretty Scroogey when it comes to listening to Fa-La-La-La-Las on the radio) made our time together even more special.

Christmas in New York City is nothing short of spectacular!

  4. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Sheila! I hope you get to NYC for the holidays next year, it is so beautiful there, but I warn you – the holiday crowds are pretty intense ;) (but it’s worth it!).

  5. I had the best time ever, especially since my travel partner is a pro. Those crowds didn’t stand a chance against our will to cross the street, umbrellas high and shoes soaked! New York was spectacular, but getting to share this trip with you, Tania, made it pre-Christmas gift to me!

  6. Awww, Thanks, Mom :) We sure did have a great time and make the most of our visit in NYC – bad weather and all! xoxox
